Jazz School was recorded in Christchurch during Eugene's January 2009 New Zealand tour. By a quirk of fate we snuck into the Polytech Jazz School afterhours, lured by the attraction of cheap recording. Only in hindsight did the Jazz School idea entertain me as a title for the album, triggered by Bruce Russell's photo shot of Eugene and I with the sign on the front of the building. The cover image is based on these photos... although in real life I have a bit more hair than that and Eugene doesn't look so much like Charles Laughton. Jazz School was recorded by Dave Cooper on the 28th of January.
